    What Kind Of An Event Is It?

    The Rift MTB is a five day stage race in North Iceland. Participants will experience some of the region's most breathtaking and varied landscapes. The trails will take riders through rugged terrain, alongside the serene waters of Eyjafjörður fjord, and across vast highland plateaus with sweeping views of the Arctic horizon. Expect challenging climbs through dramatic mountain passes, exhilarating descents into lush valleys, bike parks and sections of flowy singletrack winding through birch forests. Riders will encounter iconic features of North Iceland and remote gravel roads that highlight the raw, untouched beauty of the region. Each stage promises a unique and unforgettable adventure.

    The Capital of North Iceland

    The base where participants will spend their nights is in the town of Akureyri, often called the "Capital of North Iceland". Akureyri is vibrant town surrounded by stunning mountains and nestled at the base of Eyjafjörður fjord. It boasts excellent services, including a range of accommodations, restaurants, cafes, and shops, as well as cultural attractions like art galleries, museums, and a thriving local music scene.

    Activities

    Summer activities in Akureyri are plentiful: visitors can explore hiking trails with panoramic views, go whale watching in the fjord, or enjoy horseback riding on Icelandic horses. The Akureyri Swimming Pool, a family-friendly facility with hot tubs, waterslides, and a sauna, is a popular spot for relaxation and fun. The town is also a hub for cyclists, featuring well-stocked bike shops and access to scenic biking trails. Outdoor enthusiasts can also golf under the midnight sun or visit nearby attractions like the Goðafoss waterfall and Mývatn Nature Baths.
